Following the 2026 FIFA World Cup, FIFA President Gianni Infantino published a lengthy statement on Instagram responding to criticism surrounding the tournament.
In his message, Infantino accused critics of being "consumed by hate and criticism" and argued that while they focused on controversies, they had overlooked a tournament that, in his view, demonstrated joy, unity and the power of football to bring people together.
The statement addressed issues including security, visa difficulties, refereeing and disciplinary decisions, and the participation of countries facing political tensions. Infantino repeatedly contrasted criticism of FIFA with what he described as football's message of love, peace and unity.
Toward the end, he offered some unusual advice to those who continue to criticize FIFA: they should "reflect, meditate, pray, or watch a football match" and focus instead on the emotions football creates.
Infantino concluded by expressing pride in the tournament and signing off: "Much love to all."
