Nuremberg Zoo
#468205 / visualizzato 234 volteNuremberg Zoo in Germany announced in February 2024 that the number of animals had increased significantly, leading to plans to kill some of the animals.
Following the announcement, numerous animal rights activists across Germany held protests to stop the decision.
The zoo announced that it would be closed today for "operational reasons," and police took security measures outside the facility starting this morning.
The closure and security measures reinforced suspicions that the animals would be killed inside.
Numerous activists subsequently gathered in front of the zoo. Those who attempted to enter were detained.
An official statement was released in the afternoon, confirming that 12 animals had been killed.
Following this development, the German Animal Protection Association and the German Animal Rights Lawyers Association announced that they would file a criminal complaint against Nuremberg Zoo.
Citizens stated that the killing of animals while more humane and ethical solutions exist is unacceptable.
