Iran has faced a deep and widespread water crisis in recent decades. The signs of this crisis are no longer limited to falling groundwater levels or reduced rainfall, but are now clearly visible in the drying up of lakes, the decline in dam reserves, the destruction of agricultural land, and climate migration.
Dams that were once symbols of the development and management of the country's water resources are now suffering one after another from subsidence and the emptying of their reservoirs.
Iranian President Masoud Pezhakian on Friday, August 23, warned of a 48-meter drop in the Karaj Dam and announced efforts to transfer water from Taleghan to Alborz and Tehran provinces.
